Lagardère Travel Retail has opened a Zócalo – Fresh Happy Mex restaurant at Keflavik airport (KEF) in Iceland. The restaurant, which will open in a new food hall located in the main terminal building, is the first cooperation between Zócalo and Lagardère Travel Retail. The food hall called Aðalstræti will also have a hamburger and Italian restaurant.
Inspired by the taquerias in San Francisco’s Mission District, Zócalo’s Fresh Happy Mex concept has won the hearts of food enthusiasts around Europe since its inception in 2002. Known for serving Mexican food made from scratch with the finest, high-quality ingredients, Zócalo has become a household name across Sweden and Denmark. In 2023 Zócalo opened its first restaurant in Soho, London followed in 2024 by the first restaurant in Ireland and a second UK restaurant in Birmingham.

The Zócalo restaurant at Keflavik airport (KEF) will be open 22 hours each day, 7 days a week during the high season at the airport. Zócalo will serve a variety of burritos, burrito bowls, tacos and quesadilla along with a new breakfast menu consisting of breakfast tacos and burritos with eggs, chorizo, bacon, potatoes and fresh guacamole.
Zócalo has expanded in 5 European countries with a franchise model and there are many opportunities for single- and multi-unit franchise operators in all markets and also for master franchisees in new markets. Zócalo currently operates restaurants in London, Birmingham, Cork, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Reykjavík.
